Protect and preserve the carpeting with an auto floor mat... and with other great tips !

Nothing is better than an auto floor mat to preserve your carpeting.

It is so important to protect the carpeting in your car to keep the interior clean and dry.

A well maintained carpeting will also enhance the car's resale value and prevent the risk of floor corrosion. Choose an auto floor mat that covers as much surface as possible as well as holding a fair volume of water.

Some people like to protect 100 % of the interior carpeting with a custom-made plastic cover. It's installation by a local car care center will certainly provide a full proof protection but it's very expensive and it does not absorb the humidity and water. Instead, save your money and simply use old bath towels. Fold them in two and slip them under your front and back auto floor mats and make sure they cover most of the carpeting surface. The towels will protect from dirt and absorb the excess water, if you have water overflows. Change the towels one or two times during winter and you should be OK.

Auto carpeting is also subject to intense wear and tear. Each time you drive, you rest and rub your foot in the same place for miles and miles enough to create a hole through the carpeting. Another good reason to protect it with a good auto floor mat !!

If the carpeting in your car is still good, the nap isn't worn, you can simply and effectively repair small worn areas. Trim around the damage, cut a small piece of a good section of the carpet from an edge that's normally hidden under the seats. Carefully trim the patch to the size and shape of the hole and glue the edges with carpet glue or tape. Let dry and clean the excess glue with rubbing alcohol 99%.
