Creativity with your automotive garage tools can go a long way !

Here are some tips and ideas to organize and complement your automotive garage tools : nut and bolt storage, recycling of old containers and the use of home appliances !

Storage of nuts and bolts

Storage of nuts and bolts can be frustrating; drawers full of loose unorganized items can take hours to find the right automotive garage tools. If you have cabinets over your workbench, attach the lids from a number of old canning jars or baby food jars with screws to the bottom of the cabinets. Once securely attached you can fill the old jars with nuts, bolts and screws in an orderly fashion. When you have selected the bolt you need, which is visible through the glass and unscrew the jar from the board. When finished screw the jar back on.

Don't throw away vegetable or soup cans!

Save those tomato, soup, tuna and other cans instead of throwing them in the trash. When empty, clean them with a little soap and water and let dry, then put them in a drawer or cabinet in the shop. They come in handy for all sorts of applications, like mixing small amounts of paint, washing out small parts in solvent, acting as water containers for small jobs, holding greasy rags or simply to store small automtive garage tools. Save jars, too. You never know when you'll have some leftover paint, solvent or other material that needs to be kept in an airtight container.

Home appliances in the garage

Some automotive garage tools requires the need to run 220v electric to the garage and this can really be a bother. Be sure to check the basement of your home, you may find 220v already installed from a previous dryer application or even a stove for canning. The cost saved may make carrying those parts to the basement well worth it.

A spare old clothes washer and dryer can be a wonderful luxury in the garage. Shop cloths, car wash towels and even car covers can be washed safely away from your wife's delicates, with no fear of grease, chemicals and marital strife.

Here's the best tip within this tip. A dishwasher is a wonderful appliance to have in the garage. Wire wheel covers, one of the world's worst things to clean by hand can be duck soup, with a dishwasher. Simply, remove the covers from the car, wash off the serious road grime, tar, stones etc. Put the wheel covers in the dishwasher and turn it to pot scrub. Voila! Sparkly clean, wire wheel covers.

Other appliances in the garage that can be handy include an old hair dryer as a heat gun, and old electric motor from a washing machine or furnace blower can be converted into a buffer or sander. If this is the case a Motor Adaptor is recommended.

A little appliance creativity can save a lot of work in the garage and can enhance your set of automotive garage tools.
